Description
Oakridge Bottles
These polycarbonate and polypropylene bottles are available in most sizes for fixed-angle rotors. To seal, the "O" ring is slid over the closure, which is then inserted into the bottle opening. When the aluminum cap is screwed onto the bottle, the "O" ring is compressed, sealing the bottle.
Polycarbonate is transparent and can be autoclaved at 121°C. However, autoclaving significantly shortens the lifespan of these types of bottles, so cold sterilization should be used whenever possible. Polycarbonate is resistant to neutral salts and dilute acid solutions, but not to alkaline solutions. To prolong the life of the bottles, only use solutions with a pH below 8.
Polypropylene generally offers the best chemical resistance. It provides limited but acceptable solvent resistance under force during centrifugation. PP offers excellent resistance to alkaline gradients and can be used within a pH range of 2-12. Due to the thick wall, polypropylene bottles are milky and translucent. However, the meniscus of the sample can be seen under bright backlighting. The surface of PP is not wettable. The application temperature range is 0–30°C.
When autoclaving, always remove the closure from the bottle and autoclave separately.
The bottles can be cold sterilized in aqueous solutions with 70% ethanol, 70% isopropanol, or 10% hydrogen peroxide.
The bottles cannot be cut or pierced.
