Description
Oakridge Bottles
These polycarbonate and polypropylene bottles are available in most sizes for fixed-angle rotors. To seal, the “O”-ring is placed over the closure and inserted into the bottle opening. When the aluminum cap is screwed onto the bottle, the “O”-ring is compressed and seals the bottle.
Polycarbonate is transparent and autoclavable at 121°C. However, since autoclaving significantly shortens the lifespan of this type of bottle, cold sterilization should be used whenever possible. Polycarbonate is resistant to neutral salts and diluted acid solutions, but not to alkaline solutions. To extend the lifespan of the bottles, only solutions with a pH below 8 should be used.
Polypropylene generally offers the best chemical resistance. It provides limited but acceptable solvent resistance under centrifugal force. PP offers excellent resistance to alkaline gradients and can be used within a pH range of 2-12. Due to the thick wall thickness, the polypropylene bottles are translucent. However, the meniscus of the sample can be seen with bright backlighting. The surface of PP is non-wettable. The operating range is 0–30°C.
When autoclaving, always remove the closure part from the bottle and autoclave it separately.
The bottles can be cold sterilized in aqueous solutions with 70% ethanol, 70% isopropanol, or 10% hydrogen peroxide.
The bottles cannot be cut or punctured.
