C-flat™ i CD-flat™ i Au-flat™ - Holey Film TEM Grids
The premier holey carbon grid for SEM, TEM, cryo-TEM and high resoultion imaging
C-flat™, Au-flat™ and CD-flat™ grids (formerly manufactured by Protochips™ now by Electron Microscopy Sciences) are ultra-flat, holey carbon- or gold alloy film coated support grids for (cryo-)TEM. Unlike competing holey carbon films, they are manufactured without plastics, therefore clean upon arrival and without any residue to contend with. Artifacts such as excess carbon and edges around holes are eliminated.
C-flat™
C-flat™ are ultra-flat, holey carbon-coated TEM support grids for cryo-TEM (transmission electron microscopy). Made with patented technology using deep-UV projection lithography for patterning, most accurate and consistent hole shapes and sizes down to submicron features are achieved.
Application: For high-resolution data in Cryo-TEM, also ideal for Single Particle Analysis (SPA), cryo electron tomography (cryoET) and automated TEM analysis (e.g. using software like Leginon®).
Au-flat™
Au-flat™ are ultra-stable, strong sample supports for Cryo-EM consisting of a gold grid (about 6µm thicker than usual) with a 45nm holey Au/Pd film that allows for easy identification of the brighter holey film side of the grid. Au-flat™ significantly reduce beam-induced motion, thereby improving image quality and resolution. They are chemically inert and biologically compatible, significantly stronger than carbon films, more stable during cryo-EM workflow including tweezer handling, glow discharge, blotting, auto-grid loading and plunge freezing.
CD-flat™
CD-flat™ are premier ultra-flat holey carbon films (40nm thick) featuring a new 8.0/2.0 hole pattern on 300 mesh Cu grids. They are especially designed for CD-TEM (critical dimension) metrology of large specimens like NAND FIB lamella.

Researchers around the world have reported that the ultra-flat surface of C-flat™, Au-flat™ and CD-flatTM leads to even ice thickness and uniform particle distribution, allowing for superior 3-D reconstructions. 2 μm hole sizes are standard, but various hole sizes are available to accommodate different particle sizes and magnifications. |
C-flat™, Au-flat™ and CD-flat™ provide a regular array of analysis sites compatible with automated data collection software. This compatibility, in combination with the uniform ice thickness and particle distribution reported by numerous researchers, results in more high-quality target sites per grid. |
C-Flat™, Au-flat™ and CD-flat™ are manufactured without plastics or polymers in their production. This means C-Flat™, Au-flat™ and CD-flat™ are shipped clean, so they are ready to use out of the box and require no solvent washing steps prior to use, leading to less breakage of the holey carbon film. Plasma or glow discharge is only needed to increase the hydrophilicity of C-Flat™, Au-flat™ and CD-flat™ not for cleaning, therefore generally a lower power and less time is used. |
